PLACE MAKING

Successful placemaking paints a new picture of a Place – where the canvas is the streets, laneways, parks and gateways that lead to it.

Placemaking is a process that seeks to make short term and temporary changes to our cities and towns through the use of street art, pop up dining experiences, performance and landscape treatments. These may be conventional – they may be experimental.

These new sights, sounds, experiences and memories will help residents and visitors see ‘their’ place in a new fun and exciting light - that leads to an appetite for more.

This creates momentum and draws more people. More people - especially at night - will boost public safety, boost business and perhaps lead to infrastructure projects - all ultimately enriching the quality of life.

WHAT IS A place?

There is no definitive rule book that applies everywhere. Places vary by country and by culture; by geography and land use and by historical evolutions.

A place may be a town, a suburb, a building, park or even an intersection. In other words, a place is whatever we decide it it. It will be marked by certain features  - some unique, sometimes not. But no matter where it is, it's something that we want locals and visitors to regard as special.

THE PLACE EVOLUTION PROCESS

In reimagining Places, we use something we call the Place Evolution Process.

It is a process that allows for the private and public sector to implement a range of projects that evolve over a period of time.

Place Making forms the first stage of this process - the Seeding Stage.

The Seeding Stage tests a new idea or opportunity. It is the first step in a place changing project.
