artscape practice

Artscape's strength can be attributed to its interdisciplinary character. The breadth of the team's experience allows us to draw on a range of skills and knowledge to develop innovative, lateral responses for each project context. The Artscape team is led by its founding partners, Fiona Neil and Don Neil.

Don Neil

Don Neil Partner

BArch Registered Architect (Architect's Registration No.4512)

Don directs Design Development, Contract Administration and Project Management for Artscape. Prior to his role at Artscape Don had a successful career as an architect. As Partner of Andrews Neil for 16 years, he oversaw its growth from an architectural planning firm to a broad based consultancy. Don was involved in design, documentation and contract management across a wide range of projects including arts centres; health care and community facilities; residential and commercial developments; and domestic architecture. In 2001 Don withdrew from the firm to pursue his involvement in the visual arts. Don now brings this expertise and experience to Artscape.

Since 2001 Don has developed a multifaceted career as an artist and art consultant. Don’s background in design development and project management contributes a sound knowledge of the design process, development industry and planning context to Artscape’s operations. Don has also served on the boards of a range of cultural and arts organisations, informing Artscape’s Strategy and Planning advisory services.

Don's experience as an artist and as an architect responsible for the design and construction of many medium to large scale projects for government, corporate and private clients provides a solid foundation to Artscape’s service delivery. He brings to the firm a practical knowledge of art and design processes coupled with a comprehensive understanding of construction and contract administration.
